Another way of creating space is by using
Linear Perspective. In nature, parallel lines will converge on the horizon. This is called a vanishing point, where all lines will recede. Also, horizontal lines will seem to get closer together, the closer they are to the vanishing point.
This sketch of Batman swinging through Gotham is an example of linear perspective. The buildings behind him, and the street below are slowly converging to the same point on the paper. You can take a ruler and measure them all to the exact spot which is the vanishing point.
